CYBERSECURITY: RAISING AWARENESS AND TAKING ACTION

While 2023 will have been a record year in terms of cyber attacks, we should not expect to see the rate of cyber incidents decrease in 2024. While companies are investing ever more in cyber security, they also need to educate and train their employees.
The year 2024 is not yet over, but we already know that records will be broken in terms of (cyber-)security attacks. In fact, the Beltug association of CIOs and digital technology leaders recently reported that security and privacy awareness and IT security governance strategy were in the top 3 priorities of Belgian ICT decision-makers. In the top 10, no fewer than 6 priorities were linked to cybersecurity. For its part, the federation of technology companies Agoria has just unveiled a study showing that in 2021 Belgium suffered no fewer than 37,982 incidents of cybercrime, i.e. more than 100 cyberattacks per day, an increase of 37% on 2019. And still in 2020, 42% of Belgian SMEs were confronted with a cyber-incident.
Furthermore, teleworking and the acceleration of digitisation and use of the cloud have brought home the absolute urgency of deploying an effective security strategy within organisations whose IT platforms and data must be accessible remotely and 24/7/365. Both employees and partners (customers, suppliers, etc.) now expect to have access to the organisation's IT resources and data at all times. As a result, the perimeter of a company's activities is becoming blurred, and security is becoming global and omnipresent.

Raising awareness and training

Echoing the Security Forums organised in Belgium since 2018 and the first Security Forum organised in France in April 2022, event organiser Mark-Com Event will be staging the 7th Security Forum Belgium on 3 October in partnership with the Cyber Security Coalition.
This event will provide an opportunity to take stock of the security challenges facing an increasingly international, digital and connected environment. The aim is to offer company managers and IT decision-makers a pragmatic approach to their concerns by presenting the latest technological developments in this area and enabling them to meet the players in the field who can support them in their security policy. Visitors can look forward to a day of inspiring conferences, with presentations on data security and protection, cybersecurity, networks and more.
The Security Forum will feature a combination of topical presentations and presentations by suppliers to the ICT market. At the same time, a trade fair will enable visitors to discover the latest technological offerings and understand the major issues at stake.
At the same time as the Security Forum, the DPO Forum will be held at the Van der Valk Hotel in Nivelles, providing an update on the role of the DPO and the issues involved.
